Al Roker misses Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade for first time in 27 years as he recovers from medical issue

Al Roker missed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for the first time in 27 years while recovering from a recent medical issue.

Roker, who usually makes a parade appearance alongside his Today co-organizers, missed the big event as he recovers from blood clots in his leg and lungs, for which he was hospitalized earlier this month.

During the NBC show of the 96th annual event, Roker’s colleagues sent their best wishes and expressed their love.

“For the last 27 shows, right now, Savannah, we were looking to Al Roker, who is our Today colleague on the show and our best friend, but as many of you have heard Al is recovering and he is recovering very well from a recent medical issue,” TV host Hoda Kotb said during the parade.

“We just want to say, ‘We love you Al, we wonder if you’re watching, but we wish you a full recovery,'” she continued.

Kotb co-host Savannah Guthrie chimed in and added, “We love you, Al. See you next year.

On Twitter, several viewers shared how much they missed seeing Roker at the parade.

“What is the point of #MacysThanksgiving Parade if Al Roker can’t continue the annual tradition of fighting with butter? we wrote.

“It’s not Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade without Al Roker. Thanksgiving is canceled,” another joked.

A third said: ‘It just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving without Al Roker!’

Last week, Roker revealed he was in “recovery” after being hospitalized with blood clots. On Instagram, he opened up about how viewers questioned his absence from the Today show, before talking about his state of health.

“Many of you thoughtfully asked me where I was. Last week I was admitted to hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent clots to my lungs,” he said. -he writes.

“After a few medical whiplashes, I am so lucky to be receiving amazing medical care and on the mend. Thank you for all of your well wishes and prayers and I hope to see you soon,” he said. he adds.

On Instagram this morning, Roker shared a video of himself saying that his “version of the Thanksgiving Day parade was about to leave the hospital” and that it was “time to blow up that taco stand.”

“So much for being #thankfulfor on #thanksgiving day. Leaving the hospital and home for #thanksgivingdinner,” he wrote in the caption.
