Low Cost Electric Carpool Program Coming to Conway Homes

Residents of Conway Homes will have the opportunity to test drive a new electric ride-sharing program to add clean, affordable transportation to jobs, schools, healthcare, groceries and other essentials.

The San Joaquin Council of Governments and the San Joaquin County Housing Authority visited Conway Homes on Thursday, August 25 to give residents the opportunity to sign up to test drive the low-cost Míocar carpool program piloted by the Stockton Mobility Collective.

“Here in South Stockton, transportation is a huge barrier,” said Christine Corrales, senior regional planner at SJCOG and project manager for Stockton Mobility Collective. “We really try to focus on that equity by making sure that the program serves those who really need it… few people who have limited income have access to their own private vehicle and sometimes the public transport service (bus ) is just not the right option.

At $4 an hour after a one-time $20 membership fee, residents of Conway Homes will be able to use one of three electric Nissan Leafs. Vehicles are available for a full day at $35 weekdays and $45 weekends up to 150 miles and 35 cents per mile thereafter.

“If you have to go to a doctor’s appointment in the Bay Area, you won’t be able to get on a bus and get there easily,” Corrales said. “It’s another option for residents to really help bridge this transportation gap here.”
