About the role

As a senior lecturer, you will contribute to the School’s teaching and research efforts in the discipline of nursing. Specifically, you will make a significant contribution to the delivery of programs related to your expertise in mental health nursing and will actively participate in research, consultation and other professional activities.

Additionally, this role will see you:

  • Develop, engage in and lead high quality research projects that are aligned with the research areas of the University to successfully attract research funds and produce high quality results; and
  • Play an important research leadership role by integrating your research expertise into the life of the discipline and develop high-quality, productivity-driven networks within RMIT and with local, national and global, internal and external partners.

To be successful in this position, you will need to:

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate large courses and to prepare and deliver courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including high quality mental health curriculum and program materials and an ability to implement innovative approaches to mental health. student-centered learning and quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to support student issues related to effective learning and liaise with clinical agencies to support student learning and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary mental health care delivery and innovations nationally and internationally.
  • Nationally recognized emerging research experience, including a substantial record of research results in high-quality outlets.
  • Experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to achieve high quality results, attract and secure external research funding to support research research efforts and manage funded research projects.
  • Emerging experience in supervising higher degrees by research candidates to maximize research performance.
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to network effectively with colleagues and external agencies to generate clinical placements for RMIT students.


Compulsory for Lecturer – Level C

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia as a Registered Nurse.
  • Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to passing a work with children test.
