Worker shares job interview with local cafe

The debate between the quality of Starbucks and the coffee of the local cafe has been going on for years. From technical to specially roasted beans, baristas take pride in a great cup of coffee.

In a viral video, TikToker Brady Hoffman (@bradyhoffman313) shared his experience with a barista who clearly has a strong opinion on the debate.

“It’s not Starbucks. You don’t just press a button and the coffee comes out,” the barista told Hoffman.

Hoffman says he had a job interview at a local coffee shop and it “went extremely well.” Hw then reveals he was joking.

“Catch me at your local coffee shop slinging an espresso,” the caption read.

During the call, the interviewer asked Hoffman if he had ever worked in a coffee shop. He did not, but instead listed his past experience in other jobs, including working on horse farms, landscaping and as a dental assistant. Hoffman applied because he needed the extra money and had experience working in fast-paced environments.

“He was like, ‘well, we don’t really hire baristas who don’t have any experience,'” Hoffman recalled. “I was like okay, how am I supposed to get experience if you don’t hire me for the job and train me for the job?”

The interviewer allegedly told Hoffman that “baristas are the equivalent of chefs.”

“Be fucking for real,” Hoffman says. “No shade for baristas but f*cking for real… I was like, ‘I know how to load an espresso puck and make an espresso. “”

At this point, the conversation took a turn when the interviewer told Hoffman that the coffee was not Starbucks, as if that was an easier task. Hoffman says he didn’t appreciate the barista’s attitude.

“That’s where I like to freak out and be like ‘this is coffee! This is fucking coffee!’ “I make cocktails to go out to the club that are much more complicated than a fucking latte.”

The interviewer then told Hoffman it wasn’t going to work, and he agreed before hanging up the phone.

In the comments section, viewers agreed with Hoffman and shared their feelings about the job market.

“No bffr bc I’ve been a barista for about 8 months and believe me they’re not like chefs like no shade it’s hard to learn but not that deep,” one user commented.

“‘Baristas are the equivalent of chefs’ an interesting take,” said another.

“Literally there’s ‘all these jobs hiring’ but no one will actually hire you,” a third user commented.

The Daily Dot reached out to Hoffman via an Instagram direct message.
